Argüello denounces three "evictions": housing, Ceuta, and the womb

Luis Argüello, the president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference and archbishop of Valladolid, compared the housing crisis, the situation in Ceuta, and abortion to three different forms of eviction. In a text published by the Archdiocese of Valladolid on September 28, Argüello described the situation in Ceuta as an exodus, invasion, and occupation caused by geopolitical interests. He also characterized abortion as an eviction of the womb with irreversible consequences.

Regarding the housing crisis, Argüello referenced the case of Mari Carmen, an 87-year-old woman facing the loss of her rental home in Madrid. He noted that a social agreement is needed to address issues such as high rents, empty homes in rural Spain, and a lack of housing supply. However, he warned that public consensus on such cases can be driven by emotion rather than morality, potentially leading to ideological manipulation and political conflict.
