Arhidieceza de București hosts relic of Saint Francis of Assisi

The Saint Joseph Franciscan Province in Romania is organizing a pilgrimage of the relics of Saint Francis of Assisi throughout the Archdiocese of Bucharest. Archbishop Aurel Percă has blessed the tour, which marks the Franciscan Centenary celebrating 800 years since the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The pilgrimage includes several stops in August and October 2026. In August, the relics will visit the Sfânta Treime Franciscan Monastery in Pârâul Rece on August 29 and 30, followed by the Sfântul Francisc din Assisi Parish in Târgoviște on August 31.

During October, the relics will visit locations including Popești-Leordeni, Bărăția, and several parishes in Bucharest such as Înălțarea Sfintei Cruci and Sfânta Tereza a Pruncului Isus. On October 9, the relic will be displayed at the Sfântul Vasile cel Mare Cathedral in Bucharest. The tour includes visits to the Sfântul Iosif Cathedral, the Sfântul Bonaventura Convent, and the Cristos Rege Parish in Ploiești.
