Archdiocese of Sucre bids farewell to its Pastor, Bishop Ricardo Centellas

The Catholic Church in Bolivia held a funeral mass to honor Ricardo Centellas, the former Archbishop of Sucre and Primate of Bolivia. The funeral liturgy was presided over by Aurelio Pesoa, the bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Beni and current president of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference.

Bishop Pesoa stated that the sudden death of Bishop Centellas left the Church, the faithful, and national and regional authorities feeling orphaned and confused. The bishop noted that Centellas died unexpectedly in the city of Oruro while attending events for the 60th anniversary of the Bolivian Catholic University, where he had served as chancellor.

During his homily, Bishop Pesoa described Centellas as a humble and approachable pastor who made difficult decisions with evangelical simplicity. The deceased previously served as a priest trainer, the bishop of Potosí, and the archbishop of Sucre. The funeral service included various state authorities and representatives.
