Ascension introduces Catholic Bible for readers with dyslexia
Ascension has released the Catholic Reading Bible: Dyslexia-Friendly Edition, the first complete Catholic Bible designed with features to assist people with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. The publisher released the new edition on October 9, coinciding with International Dyslexia Day.
The Bible uses the Grace typeface and specific design principles created by the Bible design firm 2K/DENMARK. This typeface was developed through research and testing with dyslexic readers and work involving the University of Cambridge. To help readers distinguish between similar letters, the Grace typeface adds weight near the base of characters to anchor them to the line.
The edition also incorporates layout changes to make sustained reading easier. These include 11-point type, lines limited to 35 characters, and smaller text blocks instead of long paragraphs. The design uses ragged-right alignment to maintain consistent spacing between words.
