Funeral of Father Stanisław Zbojnowicz to be held Tuesday, September 29

The funeral for Father Stanisław Zbojnowicz will take place on Tuesday, September 29. A Benedictine priest, Zbojnowicz died from injuries sustained during an attack on the Benedictine nuns' monastery in Jarosław, Poland, on September 24.

According to Agenzia Fides, a 31-year-old Ukrainian refugee identified as Ihor M. entered the monastery complex and attacked five people with a kitchen knife. Zbojnowicz was killed while attempting to stop the assailant. Two other men remain in serious condition in the hospital, including Father Marek Pieńkowski, who leads the Council of the Foundation for Family Pastoral Ministry and assists Ukrainian refugees. Psychiatric experts determined the attacker shows symptoms of a psychotic disorder.

During a silent march and Mass held on September 26 to commemorate the priest, Father Adrian Mantykiewicz stated that he and the victims forgive the attacker. Mantykiewicz, who suffered less serious injuries in the attack, also asked the public not to blame the perpetrator's country of origin for the actions of a specific individual.
