At First Cursillo Mass, Bishop Brennan Witnesses Faith and Renewed Vows

Bishop Robert Brennan presided over his first Mass for the local Cursillo Movement chapter on Sept. 21 at St. Michael-St. Malachy Parish in East New York. During the liturgy, Julieta Vázquez surprised her husband, Jose Toribio, by arranging a renewal of their wedding vows.

The bishop called the event a blessing and a sign of God's love that encourages young people and parishioners. He noted that the couple's faithfulness serves as an encouragement to others.

The Cursillo Movement has operated in Brooklyn and Queens for over 50 years, conducting more than 700 retreats for men and women. The movement uses intensive weekend retreats to help participants deepen their relationship with Christ. While the bishop has attended the movement's annual spring retreat in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, this marked his first time celebrating Mass specifically for the local chapter.
