Ecumenical Patriarch Bartolomé I released a message for the Jornada Mundial de Oración por el Cuidado de la Creación, calling on humanity to make way for sustainable development.

He identified the principle of solidarity as the core of a value system. He described solidarity as a source of shared responsibility, dialogue, and sincere reciprocity, joined with a collective responsibility for the protection of the natural environment.
