Beja: Núncio apostólico desafia diocese a «sair ao encontro» e a concretizar sinodalidade, no Dia Diocesano

Apostolic Nuncio Andrés Carrascosa Coso challenged the Diocese of Beja to move from a Church that waits for people to come to one that goes out to meet them. During a Mass at the Beja Cathedral to mark the Diocesan Day on September 19, 2026, the Spanish archbishop encouraged the local Church to practice synodality and try new paths.

Carrascosa Coso explained that synodality is more than just walking together in a group. He stated that it requires recognizing that everyone is called to walk with Christ and has something to contribute to the mission of the Church. Using the parable of the workers in the vineyard, he noted that the owner of the plantation does not sit waiting for workers to appear but instead goes out to find them.

The Nuncio urged the diocese to listen to the command to go out. He identified specific groups for the Church to reach, including families, young people, those in the peripheries, people who have stopped attending, those searching for faith, the suffering, and the lonely.
