Beyond the Event: Preparing for a Eucharistic Legacy

Sydney will host the International Eucharistic Congress in the spring of 2028, bringing together Catholics from Australia and the world. Organizers must coordinate liturgies, venues, speakers, pilgrim routes, hospitality, communications, and logistics to accommodate various languages and cultures.

Daniel Ang of The Catholic Weekly reports that the congress requires specific provisions for schools, young people, and spaces for silence and contemplation. The event also seeks to offer opportunities for participants to encounter different Church vocations and apostolates to deepen their faith.

Ang notes that the success of the congress should be measured by long term changes in the Church rather than just attendance or registrations. He suggests that the work must ensure the event helps people encounter Jesus Christ, increases love for the Eucharist, makes parishes more missionary, and forms new disciples and leaders.
