Bishop Bonnici recounts 9/11 experience

Bishop John S. Bonnici of Rochester shared his experiences serving as a priest in the Archdiocese of New York during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

On the morning of the attacks, Bonnici walked home through crowds of people fleeing Lower Manhattan and found his room covered in dust. He went to the Ground Zero morgue the following day to assist. Reflecting on his role during the tragedy, Bonnici stated that when a priest cannot fix a situation, the most important thing they can offer is their presence.
