Bishop Broderick Pabillo delivers homily for 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Bishop Broderick Pabillo told listeners that good intentions are insufficient for salvation during his homily for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time on September 27, 2026. He explained that God looks at actual actions rather than just intentions.

Using the parable of the two sons, Pabillo noted that the first son initially refused to work in the vineyard but changed his mind and went to do the work. In contrast, the second son promised to work but did not follow through. Pabillo stated that the one who did the father's will was the one who actually worked, not the one who simply gave a generous verbal response.

The bishop also referenced the prophet Ezekiel to explain that while a wicked person who turns to goodness will live, a good person who turns to evil will die. He emphasized that God judges people based on who they are now rather than who they were in the past.
