Bishop Gerard Nash to be installed Bishop of Ossory

Bishop Gerard Nash will be installed as the new bishop of Ossory this Sunday, September 13, 2026. The installation Mass is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Cathedral on James’ Street in Kilkenny.

The Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference expects up to one thousand people to attend the celebration, which includes clergy, religious, laity, and guests. The Mass will be available via livestream through the cathedral webcam. The diocesan choir, featuring members from various parishes in Ossory, will perform alongside local musicians under the direction of musical directors Sean O’Neill and Joy Bibby. Father Roderick Whearty, the parish priest of Ferrybank and Slieverue, will serve as master of ceremonies.

At the entrance of the cathedral, Bishop Nash will be greeted by Sarah Rice, chairperson of the Ossory Diocesan Pastoral Council; Gemma Mulligan, coordinator of the diocesan pastoral plan and director of the lay ministry programme; Father Dermot Ryan, administrator of the cathedral parish; and Father Larry Wallace, a senior member of the College of Consultors.
