Bishop José Luis Retana asks for prayers for Pope Leo XIV's recovery

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Bishop José Luis Retana of Salamanca is asking the faithful to pray for the recovery of Pope Leo XIV following the pontiff's recent surgery for lung adenocarcinoma at Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

The bishop noted that while medical reports indicate the postoperative process is progressing normally, he urged the diocesan community to continue praying for the pope's full recovery. Retana mentioned that the news of the illness was unexpected, noting that the pope's physical strength during his visit to Spain last summer had been impressive.
