Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi launches 'Refuge and Reconstruction' photo exhibition in Valletta

Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi launched a photographic exhibition titled "Refuge and Reconstruction" at the Archbishop’s Palace in Valletta. The exhibition, featuring work by Martin Bertrand, explores the lives of migrants in Malta after their initial arrival, focusing on their daily processes of waiting, learning, and building relationships as they seek to rebuild their lives.

The French Embassy in Malta and the Migrants Commission organized the exhibition in collaboration with MELA and the Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture. Bertrand developed the project by working with organizations such as the Migrants Commission Welcoming Centre in Balzan, SkateUni, and Spark15. While the project originally aimed to document Malta's response to Mediterranean migration and the human impact of European policies, it shifted to focus on the long-term realities of asylum, accommodation, and integration.

During the launch, Bishop Galea-Curmi stated that the photographs make viewers aware of the people behind the images, calling for hospitality, responsibility, and solidarity.
