Bishop Michael F. Burbidge’s Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge issued a statement to the Diocese of Arlington to mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 through October 15. He thanked God for the traditions and faith of Hispanic and Latino communities, noting that these groups are a growing and vital part of the local Church.

Burbidge highlighted the devotion to Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as the commitment to family and service seen in local parishes, schools, and ministries. He noted that these contributions strengthen the diocese and demonstrate how different cultures can unite under one faith and mission.

The bishop addressed the fears and uncertainties currently facing many in the Hispanic community, offering the reminder that God remains close to those who trust him. He encouraged parents and grandparents to pass their faith to younger generations and urged young people to embrace their Catholic identity and their specific missions within the Church and the world.
