Bishop Michael T.T. Castori, SJ: Notes from Rome

Bishop Michael T.T. Castori, SJ, recently completed a weeklong Vatican formation course for recently ordained bishops in Rome.

The program included presentations from leaders of various Vatican departments, such as those for education, evangelization, and divine worship. Castori said these speakers emphasized the importance of listening, which reflects the synodal model of the Church promoted by Pope Francis and Pope Leo. He noted that this model acknowledges that every member of the Church has a voice worthy of being heard.

During the week, Castori met with other recently named U.S. bishops and bishops from around the world. The course also included small group discussions about their dioceses and a pilgrimage to the tomb of St. Francis in Assisi.
