Bishop of Faro launches 'FAROL' initiative for personal encounter with communities
Bishop Vitorino Soares of Faro began the FAROL project on October 11 to visit and listen to parish communities across the diocese. The initiative, titled "FAROL – Fé que aproxima, Igreja que encontra," launched at the São Brás de Alportel main church to coincide with the start of Mission Week.
In a pastoral note, Bishop Soares stated he wants to understand the human, spiritual, and pastoral realities of each parish. He intends to support the daily work of priests and encourage participation in evangelization. The project name draws on the region's connection to the ocean, using the image of a lighthouse to represent faith.
The first phase of the itinerary continues throughout October. The bishop is scheduled to visit churches in Monte Gordo, Castro Marim, and Vila Real de Santo António on Sunday, October 18. On October 25, he will make three visits to the Tavira municipality.
