Bishop Michael Router delivers homily during Installation Mass as Bishop of Derry

Bishop Michael Router addressed the Diocese of Derry during his installation mass, stating that the spiritual life of the diocese is sustained by prayer, devotion, and the liturgy. During his homily, Router noted that the local Church functions as a network of relationships rather than just an institution, citing the trust and affection between priests and their parishioners as a major asset.

Router thanked Bishop Donal McKeown for his pastoral care, which he said helped foster a culture of respect and love within the faith community. He expressed gratitude for the welcome he received and acknowledged the nerves associated with moving to a new location.

The new bishop said he intends to begin his leadership by listening to the community. He noted that he recently held separate meetings with clergy and lay people involved in the life of the diocese to learn about their perspectives.
