Bishop Socrates Mesiona calls for concrete action to support migrants

Bishop Socrates Mesiona called on parishes to provide practical support and care for migrants during the 40th National Migrants’ Sunday Mass on September 27, 2026. Speaking at the Diocesan Shrine of Jesus, the Divine Word in Quezon City, the bishop stated that good intentions must be matched by specific actions to ensure migrants are not neglected or abused.

Mesiona, who serves as the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, suggested that welcoming becomes meaningful through small acts such as listening patiently, using a person's name, and offering practical assistance. He noted that while caring for migrants should not overlook the challenges of host communities, responses must uphold the dignity of everyone involved.
