Bishops of Eastern Churches Granted More Autonomy After Changes to Canon Law

Bishops of Eastern Churches have received increased autonomy following changes to canon law.

The updates affect 23 ancient churches across the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa, including the Maronite Church in Lebanon, the Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine, the Coptic Church in Egypt, and the Chaldean Church in Iraq. These churches have historically maintained their own specific rites, languages, and cultures.
