Bishops of North America meet in Cuernavaca

Bishops from the United States, Mexico, and Canada met in Cuernavaca, Mexico, from August 30 to September 4 to coordinate pastoral efforts regarding migration, human dignity, and evangelization. The trilateral gathering, which Bishop Ramón Castro Castro, president of the Mexican Bishops' Conference, described as the first of its kind in Church history, allowed representatives from the three national episcopal conferences to share experiences and identify common challenges.

Bishop Castro Castro stated that the bishops met to analyze the social, political, and economic realities of their respective nations to better serve their people. He noted that while migration, politics, and the economy differ across the three countries, the bishops are united by a single ministry and service.

During the meeting, Bishop Castro Castro identified the violence in Mexico as a major challenge and a source of deep sorrow for the Church. He said Mexican pastors are working to build a network of peace to confront these issues.
