Pope Leo XIV addressed a spiritual meeting of bishops who are friends of the Focolare Movement on September 9, 2026. During the gathering, the Pope spoke about the movement's theme of giving witness to unity.

The Pope noted that the movement, founded by Chiara Lubich, serves as a sign of unity in an era of increasing polarization. He stated that the task of witnessing to unity is more urgent today due to social divisions, prejudice, racism, religious intolerance, and violence in various countries. He also highlighted the fragmentation of family, friendship, and community networks in the West caused by individualism.
