Borges: A Life in Literature

Jorge Luis Borges died in Geneva on June 14, 1986, according to an analysis by Diego Mattei, SJ, in La Civiltà Cattolica. Born in Buenos Aires on August 24, 1899, Borges became a prominent 20th-century literary figure known for his short stories and encyclopedic erudition.

Borges inherited a family history of blindness from his father, lawyer Jorge Guillermo Borges, which contributed to his path as a writer. His mother, Leonor Acevedo de Borges, served as his most consistent collaborator throughout his career. Although he received multiple nominations for the Nobel Prize, he never won the award.
