Brothers of St. Gabriel mark 125 years of education in Thailand
The Brothers of St. Gabriel celebrated 125 years of educational and human formation work in Thailand with a Thanksgiving Mass on Oct. 7 at Assumption Cathedral in Bangkok. The congregation began its mission in the country when five missionaries arrived from France on the ship Annam.
Bishop Silvio Siripong Charatsri presided over the Mass, which was concelebrated by Archbishop Peter B. Wells, the apostolic nuncio to Thailand, alongside various bishops, priests, brothers, and religious. Queen Suthida, an alumna of Assumption University of Thailand, provided a pair of royal candles for the liturgy.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn sent congratulations to the congregation, expressing admiration for their mission to educate and nurture youth. Queen Suthida also noted the brothers' role in advancing academic standards from early childhood through higher education to help develop the nation's human resources.
