Building a Culture of Life

Bishop James T. Schuerman wrote that human dignity is based on being created in the image and likeness of God. He stated that every human life is sacred and possesses immeasurable worth.

Schuerman noted that in the New Testament, Jesus showed God's love for individuals by healing the sick, blessing children, and casting out demons. He explained that Jesus taught his disciples to become like children to enter the kingdom of heaven, meaning they must identify with the most vulnerable people in the world. Schuerman pointed out that in the time of Jesus, young children had no political significance or social status and relied entirely on their families for protection and sustenance.
