Card. Zuppi: liberi di annunciare perché radicati in Cristo e vicini alle persone

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, addressed the Permanent Episcopal Council in Rome on September 21, 2026, regarding the implementation of synodal proposals. He stated that the council aims to provide continuity to the ideas found in the synodal summary document, Lievito di pace e di speranza.

Zuppi noted that some of these proposals are already being worked on in individual dioceses, while others, such as the reform of the statutes, are currently being studied by the Italian Episcopal Conference. He welcomed Bishop Calogero Marino of Savona-Noli, who was elected President of the Ligurian Episcopal Conference. Zuppi emphasized that the council seeks to respond to expectations from the synodal path by listening to one another and sharing responsibilities to serve the Church.
