Cardinal Ambongo Urges Catholics to Preserve Identity Amid “disorder” in Some Pentecostal Churches in DR Congo

Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo has urged Catholics in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to maintain their religious identity despite the growth of various Christian denominations. Speaking during the opening of the 2026–2027 pastoral year at Our Lady of Congo Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Kinshasa, the cardinal criticized what he described as disorder within some Pentecostal communities.

Ambongo stated that some newer Christian groups focus on material prosperity and use noisy practices. He advised the faithful to respect other Christian communities while remaining conscious of their own Catholic identity. He noted that while these new churches recognize the Catholic Church as the mother house, the Catholic Church should not imitate the practices of revival churches.

The cardinal called for Catholics to live their faith with intelligence, gentleness, and courage. He emphasized that the Church must not copy the methods of other denominations.
