Cardinal Brislin Calls on South Africans to Take Collective Action on Environmental Justice

Cardinal Stephen Brislin has urged South African communities to work together to protect the environment and address local ecological issues. During a reflection on the Season of Creation published on September 1, the Archbishop of Johannesburg highlighted specific environmental threats facing the country.

The Cardinal identified several pressing concerns, including fine dust from old mine tailings dams in Johannesburg, sinkholes caused by illegal mining, and widespread littering. He suggested that individuals can help restore the environment through practical steps such as planting trees to help clean the atmosphere.

Cardinal Brislin also noted that these environmental efforts could help solve food security problems. He encouraged people to use small plots of land to grow vegetables to provide food for families facing poverty and hunger.
