Cardinal Cupich sues Illinois

Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago, along with several religious orders and a pharmacist, filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois to block a new assisted suicide law. The plaintiffs include the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm and the Little Sisters of the Poor.

The lawsuit seeks to prevent the state from enforcing the law, which the plaintiffs argue forces them to assist in patients killing themselves. Cardinal Cupich stated that the lawsuit aims to protect the freedom of Catholics to care for the sick and dying according to their faith and to uphold the dignity of human life.
