Cardinal Turkson Highlights Technology’s Role in Transforming Africa’s Resources

Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson said technology can help people across Africa transform natural resources into practical benefits for communities. Speaking on September 3, the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences noted that human ingenuity allows for the use of creation to meet specific needs and promote human development.

The remarks came during an interview with ACI Africa alongside the launch of a 1.5-megawatt solar project for Veritas University in Abuja. The project is being provided by Earth Our Common Home (ECHo). Cardinal Turkson explained that the mission of the organization is to supply clean energy to Catholic Churches and their institutions throughout Africa.

The Ghanaian cardinal noted that while people have previously relied on diesel fuel and generators, solar energy demonstrates how to harness God's creation. He stated that God provides the raw materials and the means to carry out human activities, but technology is required to transform these resources into usable energy.
