Cardinal Zuppi presents 800th anniversary celebrations of Saint Francis' death

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi presented a calendar of events at Palazzo Pio to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. During the presentation in the Marconi Hall, Zuppi expressed a desire to keep the light of peace burning through concrete commitments involving patience, dialogue, and justice. He noted that renewing the ritual of lighting a lamp with an oil offering serves as a symbol of this commitment.

The upcoming celebrations include a visit to Assisi by the president of the Italian Republic, Mattarella, on October 4. Bishop Accrocca stated that the teachings of Saint Francis remain relevant because they offer a radical reading of the Gospel.
