Cáritas Argentina and Pastoral Social of the Argentine Episcopal Conference issue statement on food waste

Cáritas Argentina and the Pastoral Social of the Argentine Episcopal Conference issued a statement on September 29 to address food loss and waste. The organizations reported that Argentina loses and wastes approximately 16 million tons of food annually.

The statement noted that in 2025, more than 20.5 million kilograms of food were rescued, which is estimated to be equivalent to 61.6 million meals. To address this issue, the groups suggested shifting focus from managing leftovers to preventing waste through optimization, recovery, and sharing. They encouraged individuals to review how they purchase, cook, and consume food to better value the resources and labor involved in food production.
