Dom Jaime Cardeal Spengler presides over Mass for 70th anniversary of Mensageiro da Caridade

Cardinal Jaime Spengler presided over a Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral on September 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of Mensageiro da Caridade. The organization, which operates under the Archdiocesan Caritas of Porto Alegre, was founded on January 1, 1957.

During the celebration, Cardinal Spengler recognized the history of the organization and mentioned individuals who helped establish its early work, including Father Paulo de Nadal and Maurício Vian through the Cidade de Deus project. He noted that solidarity is a shared responsibility and encouraged the people of Porto Alegre to participate in the mission of assisting those in social vulnerability.

The anniversary celebrations began in September and will continue through October 2027. The scheduled activities aim to promote solidarity and the common good while supporting the institution's work in providing aid to the most vulnerable.
