Caritas calls for an end to the suffering in the Middle East

Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Middle East and North Africa are urging world leaders and the international community to take decisive action to address the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East. In a statement released in Amman, the organizations called on Member States to stop the displacement and destruction affecting civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.

The organizations reported that people in these regions face daily bombardment, confinement, and the denial of basic freedoms and goods. In Gaza, the situation remains critical. According to the statement, Israeli forces have violated the ceasefire announced on October 10, 2025, every day for 337 consecutive days as of September 14, 2026.

UN OCHA reports indicate that most of the 2.1 million residents in Gaza are displaced and crowded into approximately 30 percent of the Gaza Strip. Additionally, only about 40 percent of the humanitarian funding needed for 2026 has been received, leaving much of the population without adequate food, shelter, water, or sanitation.
