Caritas-Spes Odessa hit by Russian drone
A Russian drone strike hit a building across from the Caritas-Spes Odessa safe space on Saturday, October 10. The explosion caused significant damage to the facility, destroying large facade windows and damaging entrance doors.
Don Ruslan Karmalita, the diocesan director of Caritas-Spes Ukraine for the Diocese of Odesa-Simferopil, said the strike occurred in the city center. No staff members or neighbors were injured, according to Karmalita. Local charities and municipal services helped secure the premises by covering the broken windows with OSB panels.
Oliver Müller, head of Caritas International, described the attack on the counseling center as unbearable. He stated that the strike could have resulted in a catastrophe with many deaths.
