Catechists commissioned to share faith

Bishop Emilio E. Biosca, O.F.M. Cap., commissioned approximately two dozen catechists during a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Venice on Sept. 20, 2026. The ceremony coincided with Catechetical Sunday, a day used to recognize those who teach the faith in Catholic schools and parish religious education programs.

During the Mass, Bishop Emilio said catechists help people seeking sacraments and religious education recognize God's work in their lives. He noted that the experiences of catechumens and candidates demonstrate God's mercy and invitation into the Church. The bishop led the group in a commissioning prayer asking for strength to dedicate themselves to their service and to share the teachings of the Church.
