Catholic Archdiocese in Malawi Launches Endowment Fund to Foster Self-Reliant Church, Boost Evangelization

The Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe in Malawi has launched the Tiyende Limodzi Endowment Fund to improve the Church's financial sustainability. Archbishop George Desmond Tambala unveiled the fund to support evangelization and social missions, including pastoral programs, education, health, and social development.

Archbishop Tambala first announced the establishment of the fund during his 2026 Easter exhortation in April. He noted that local and global economic conditions, along with climate-related challenges, have made traditional mission funding more difficult. The Archbishop stated that the fund is a long-term effort to build a self-reliant Church capable of serving society and proclaiming the Gospel for future generations.

The fund was officially launched on July 25. In a statement released Wednesday, September 16, Archbishop Tambala thanked those who helped launch the initiative, noting that it reflects the unity of the archdiocesan family.
