Catholic Church in the United States to focus National Migration Week on migrant children

The Catholic Church in the United States will focus its 2026 National Migration Week on the needs of migrant and refugee children. Running from Monday, Sept. 21, to Sunday, Sept. 27, the observance coincides with the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees.

The week adopts the theme “Even One of These Little Ones,” which matches the theme chosen by Pope Leo XIV for the global observance. In his message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, the Pope stated that the theme directs attention to minors involved in migration and flight and the care they are owed.

Bishop Brendan Cahill, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Migration, said the Church has a long history of caring for migrant and refugee children. He noted that this work ranges from the historical efforts of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and her sisters to modern diocesan charities that provide support to migrant families.
