Catholic Church in U.S. to focus National Migration Week on migrant children

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will focus National Migration Week on the needs of migrant and refugee children. Running from Monday, Sept. 21, to Sunday, Sept. 27, the observance concludes on the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees.

The USCCB adopted the theme “Even One of These Little Ones” to align with the message released by Pope Leo XIV for the global observance. The Pope stated that the theme highlights the care required for minors involved in migration and flight.

Bishop Brendan Cahill, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Migration, said the Church has a long history of caring for migrant and refugee children. He noted that this work ranges from the historical efforts of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and her sisters sheltering orphaned immigrant children to modern diocesan charities that provide support to families today.
