Catholic Education WA celebrates the Season of Creation

Catholic Education Western Australia organized several events to mark the 2026 Season of Creation, which runs from September 1 to October 4. As part of the celebrations, approximately 35 staff members from primary and secondary schools attended a two-day accreditation course on Integral Ecology at the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre.

Jacqui Remond from the Australian Catholic University Faculty of Theology and Philosophy led the course. Remond, a specialist in Integral Ecology and a consultor to the Vatican's Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, taught participants about the moral necessity of ecological conversion. The training focused on the theme of Living Water and used the 2015 encyclical Laudato Si’ by the late Pope Francis as a foundation to examine how ecological and social crises are linked.

The course explored how Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching inform humanity's relationship with creation. These efforts follow calls from Pope Leo XIV for all levels of society to take concrete action to protect vulnerable communities and respond to the needs of the environment.
