البطريرك نونا يتحدث عن التعايش السلمي في الجامعة المستنصرية ببغداد

Patriarch Mar Paul III Nona delivered a lecture on peaceful coexistence at Al-Mustansiriya University in Baghdad on Monday, September 21, 2026. Invited by the Al-Mustansiriya Center for Arab and International Studies, the Patriarch spoke on managing differences to build citizenship, trust, and the common good.

The Patriarch explained that peaceful coexistence requires more than the absence of war, describing it as a social, ethical, and political structure built on justice, citizenship, and mutual trust. He noted that simply living side by side does not guarantee coexistence, which instead requires recognizing human rights and fundamental freedoms despite individual differences.

During the lecture, the Patriarch warned that digital communication can lead to superficial connections that risk emotional and relational distance, urging people to move from mere contact to building genuine relationships. He also stated that religion should act as a force for reconciliation within communities rather than a cause of division. To support this, he referenced documents from the Second Vatican Council regarding relations with other religions and emphasized the importance of mutual understanding on ethical issues and peace.
