He stated that experiencing mercy expands the perspective of merit and that the gift of peace ends rivalry and brings people together through gratitude.

Leo XIV encouraged people to abandon competition and calculation in favor of mercy and love. He suggested that the novelty of what God prepares can cause resistance in people who prefer a more calculated form of justice.
