Catholic Saints Such as St. John Paul II Are Real Life Superheroes… According to Marvel!

Marvel produced a comic book about the life of St. Francis of Assisi in 1982 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of his birth.

Father Campion Lally, a priest in Tokyo, initiated the project by approaching Marvel representative Gene Pelc to share the saint's story with readers outside the Church. After Stan Lee expressed interest in the concept, Marvel executives approved the production following interest from Paulist Press to purchase 250,000 copies.
