Catholic social scientists hold conference
The Society of Catholic Social Scientists is holding its 34th National Meeting on Oct. 23–24 at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. The conference brings together scholars to discuss how Catholic theology and social teachings relate to various academic disciplines.
Scheduled talks include discussions on artificial intelligence, immigration policy, euthanasia, and just war doctrine. Participants will also examine Catholic history in the United States in connection with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Founded in 1992 by Stephen M. Krason, a professor emeritus of political science at Franciscan University of Steubenville, the society seeks to apply a Catholic worldview to professional academic work. The organization follows the instruction of Pope John XXIII in his encyclical Mater et Magistra for Christians to align their conduct in social and economic affairs with Church teachings. Members often submit their research papers to the society's scholarly journal, the Catholic Social Science Review.
