Catholic Teachers Urged to “go beyond academic education” at Annual Mass in Kenya

Bishop Cleophas Oseso Tuka of the Diocese of Nakuru told Catholic teachers in Kenya to nurture the spiritual, emotional, and moral development of their students rather than focusing only on academic instruction.

During a homily on September 26 at the Baringo Pastoral Region Annual Catholic Teachers Mass, held at Mary Mother of God, Karbarnet Parish, Bishop Oseso said teachers have a responsibility to prepare children for eternal life. He told the teachers that their vocation requires them to help students grow in their relationship with God.

The bishop encouraged teachers to participate in Programme for Pastoral Instruction lessons in schools to help students grow in their spiritual lives. He also said teachers should act in a parental role to help raise responsible children since students spend much of their time in school.
