Catholic University of Malawi Research Ethics Committee visits MUBASREC
Members of the Catholic University of Malawi Research Ethics Committee (CUNIMAREC) visited the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) during the week of October 19, 2026. The visit allowed CUNIMAREC to study how the MUBAS Research Ethics Committee (MUBASREC) manages and oversees research ethics review processes.
CUNIMAREC is working to become fully operational following its recent approval. Sainala Kalebe, the manager of the CUNIMA Centre for Research and Publications, said the engagement would help the committee understand how to run its operations by learning from an established institution.
During the visit, MUBASREC members shared practical information regarding committee management, including procedures for the submission and review of research protocols. MUBASREC Acting Chairperson Dr. Peter Mathews Mhagama welcomed the delegation and noted that the exchange was based on the experience his committee has gained over several years.
