Cattedrale: l’Assunzione ritrovata. Presentato il restauro della pala di Domenico Capriolo

The Diocese of Treviso presented the restored altarpiece of the Assumption of the Virgin by Domenico Capriolo during a ceremony at the Treviso Cathedral on Tuesday, September 15. The painting, created in 1520, returns to the cathedral after being absent for more than ten years.

Don Paolo Barbisan, director of the diocesan office for cultural heritage and sacred art, stated that the restoration was funded by Daniela Chinaglia and Giorgio De Conti. The couple financed the project in memory of their parents to connect their personal history to a public good. Restorers Roberto Saccuman and Marta Schiavinato explained the conservative restoration process during the event.

Bishop Michele Tomasi and cathedral pastor Monsignor Mario Salviato attended the blessing. The bishop thanked those who contributed to the recovery of the work, noting that the painting's placement serves both an artistic and a spiritual purpose at the altar of the Madonna where people come to pray.
