CBCP calls for anti-dynasty law

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) called for the enactment of a meaningful and effective law against political dynasties on Friday. In a pastoral statement signed by CBCP president Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, the bishops said they support the measure to fulfill the mandate of the Constitution.

The bishops' statement follows a Supreme Court order for Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to pass such a law. The CBCP stated that political dynasties are a moral and ethical concern rather than just a political question, arguing that concentrated power makes institutions vulnerable to patronage and favoritism.

The bishops expressed support for the "Dapat Isa Lang" citizens' initiative. They described the initiative as a peaceful and democratic effort to promote justice, equality, and the common good.
