CEI, il Cardinale Zuppi omaggia Ruini: "Non vogliamo disperdere la sua dedizione"

Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, president of the CEI, paid tribute to Cardinal Camillo Ruini during the opening of the permanent episcopal council meeting. Zuppi remembered Ruini, who died on June 16, for his long service to the conference and his efforts to ensure the Church remained active in the world rather than being limited to private experience.

Zuppi noted that Ruini focused on the Church's presence to counter the weakening of the country's cultural identity and the growing marginalization of faith. He described Ruini as a man who loved the Church and the Successor of Peter, seeking to create a faith capable of engaging with modern questions to produce culture and humanism. Zuppi stated that the conference does not want to lose this dedication.

Zuppi also called for proximity to be expressed in culture, laws, and political and economic choices. He referenced the responsibility reminded by the Pope for Europe to welcome, protect, promote, and integrate, working together so that no one is forced to leave their land.
