CEI supports restoration of artworks in Assisi
The Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) is funding the restoration of several Franciscan artworks in Assisi to protect and promote the region's artistic heritage.
The first project involves the 1753 painting "Ecstasy of Saint Joseph of Cupertino" by Andrea Benedetto Fornioni, held at the Sacro Convento. Because the painting's current condition makes it difficult to view clearly, Sergio Fusetti will lead a restoration process including cleaning, consolidation, lining, and retouching the paint.
The CEI is also supporting the restoration of three pieces from the Museo della Porziuncola for the exhibition "Saint Francis at the Porziuncola, the Parable of the Face of Saint Francis of Assisi." These works include the paintings "Saint Francis in Meditation" and "Saint Francis Adoring the Crucifix," as well as a painted paper print of "The Seraphic Tree." Restoration for the paintings involves cleaning, filling gaps, retouching, and frame maintenance, while the print requires removing plexiglass and repairing insect damage.
